Seed Journey
This one is dedicated to nine prairie seeds & all that they helped establish across this continent for millions of years. Without them, our midwestern soils would never have been as rich & full of life. Some of us are working to bring them back into our landscapes, with all the bird sound and insect whizzing they invite! You might call it – looking down for answers.
Chorus:
Seed journey
Seed the journey
Seek your way back down
Where the roots grow
Find your shadow
Underneath the ground
1.
Here the grasses –
Lads & lasses
Sway in streams of light
Echinacea –
Milkweed feeds the
Monarch in her flight
2
Little Bluestem –
What’s your problem
Breaking loose the soil
Do you need us
To reseed the
Lessons that you know?
Chorus
3.
Black-eyed Susan –
Are you turnin’?
Dogbane reins you in.
Brother Bluestem
Rides his rhythms
Peopling the wind
4.
Switchgrass wavers
Adding flavors
To the prairie world
Wild bergamot
Sleeps all curled-up
Butterfly weed unfurls
