Eleventh Moon: A Seascape
Written for a friend going through a rough time, after we took a trip to Plum Island National Seashore, north of Boston. The clouds were making funny patterns across the moon – and seemed to be offering us solace & laughter.
Here comes the moon
High above the water
Here comes the moon
Ranging ‘cross the sky
Here come the clouds
With all their many voices
Here come the clouds
With their faces awry
Lit by the night
Like a fritillary memory
Or a candle wick
With the world turned inside
Out --- comes the sea
With its never-ending choices
And its one intent
And its circling tides
Bridge:
Lay we down
Upon the sand
Heavy hearts
Upon the land
Horsehead above
And tigering strand
Giggling pig
And flickering hand
World begin
Over and over
Stretch your skin
And around we go
Almond toes
And ocean before us
East of the eagle
And west of the glow
Seek the way in
Over and over
Touch me a sound
And sing me your mind
Laugh me the moon
Thread you a pathway
Over the dunes and day after day…
